Protect the voice of bankers

Last year, two open seats representing Michigan financial institutions on the board of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis were won by credit unions. This year two Indiana seats are open and we don’t want the same thing to happen, so the IBA Board is changing how the Association interacts with this voting process for the first time in our history.

National perspective

Our friends at the ABA and ICBA write about the need for banks to row together against a rising tide of regulation, and continuing to climb for the benefit of the communities we serve.

BANKER PROFILE

Elaine Furnish

We’re continuing our new series of introducing you to a Hoosier banker every issue, including how they got started, stories of how they overcame obstacles in their career, from where they draw their inspiration and more. W. Elaine Furnish serves as senior vice president and treasurer at First Farmers Bank & Trust Co., Converse. She talked to us about what she learned from her first job, what it was like choosing to take a job with a bank that was struggling during the financial crisis, and what she likes to do for fun when she’s not working.

Leaving a legacy

A scholarship has been established in memory of Allen B. Chesser Jr., president and CEO of The First National Bank of Monterey. Chesser also chaired the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Association, and the scholarship will support an intern who is pursuing or recently completed post-secondary study in a discipline that contributes to the group’s mission.
