John Bedient

1st Source Bank, South Bend

John Bedient has been promoted to executive vice president, chief operating officer at 1st Source Bank, South Bend. He has been with the bank for nearly 35 years, most recently serving as chief operations officer. He is now responsible for information technology, Salesforce and the enterprise project management office in addition to his operations responsibilities.

The promotion took effect in October as part of the bank’s executive succession plan after Christopher J. Murphy III’s transition to executive chairman. Andrea G. Short was also promoted to CEO of the bank and president & CEO of its holding company, and Kevin C. Murphy was promoted to president of the bank.

Bedient first joined the bank in 1991 as an entry-level financial analyst. Over the years, he has also worked in special projects including the creation, management and eventual wind-down of the bank’s specialty finance asset securitization portfolios; installation of a new core system, loan origination and CRM conversion projects; and development and roll-out of the bank’s mobile banking platforms, in-house debit card systems and online and in-branch account opening conversion projects.

He serves as vice chairman of the board for Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County. Bedient holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University.
