George Allison passed away Dec. 14, 2025, in Spencer, Indiana. He had just celebrated his 93rd birthday a week prior.
Allison served in the U.S. Army, earning the rank of sergeant, before graduating from Eastern Illinois University and then from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Graduate School of Banking. He spent three decades at Owen County State Bank, Spencer, retiring in 1997 as president and CEO. He continued to serve on the bank’s board of directors for another 20 years, including time as its chairman, serving at the bank for 57 years.
Allison also served as chairman of the Indiana Bankers Association in 1996-97, was named an IBA Leader in Banking Excellence in 2020 and was a member of the IBA’s 40 Year Club. He was named a Sagamore of the Wabash in 1997.
He was instrumental in the start-up of the Owen County Family YMCA and was a founding director of the Owen County Community Foundation. Allison served on the Spencer-Owen Chamber of Commerce for 35 years, including two years as its president. He was a member of the Bloomington Hospital Board of Directors for many years, including time as its treasurer.
Allison is survived by two daughters, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three nieces and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 64 years, Jetta; and his brother.
