The Farmers Bank, Frankfort, celebrated its 150th anniversary this summer.
Founded on June 17, 1876, in downtown Frankfort, the bank opened its doors at a time when Rutherford B. Hayes was preparing to become president of the United States, the telephone had just been invented, and America was celebrating its centennial. Over the next century and a half, it grew to a financial institution with more than $1 billion in assets serving customers across central Indiana.
On June 17, the first 50 visitors to each of the bank’s financial centers were treated to a free slice of anniversary cake and had the chance to win gift cards and other prizes.
The Farmers Bank enters a new chapter for its next 150 years as it merged with First Bank Richmond, effective July 1, to form First Bank Midwest, Frankfort. Honoring the histories of both predecessor organizations, the newly formed entity is using the tagline, “Rooted in tradition. Growing toward the future.”
