What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?
My first job was working at a Little League baseball concession stand as a teenager. I learned early on that how I approached a situation directly influenced how customers responded. That experience has stayed with me. Today, I’m always mindful that my response can shape the outcome. Approaching situations with intention makes all the difference.
What drew you to banking?
I always knew I wanted a career where I could help people. While banking wasn’t my original plan after college, I quickly discovered how much I enjoyed working in a service-oriented environment. It became clear that banking provided a unique opportunity to combine my education with my passion for helping others.

How do you stay innovative and forward-thinking in an ever-evolving industry?
One of my core philosophies is that we are all lifelong learners. To stay innovative and open to change, I make a conscious effort to embrace that mindset daily. I dedicate time each week to reading insights from industry leaders, engaging with peers through forums, and listening to podcasts focused on financial services. Continuously learning from others helps me stay informed and adaptable in a rapidly changing industry.
In your opinion, what is the most exciting trend or development in banking right now?
I am particularly excited about the continued evolution of artificial intelligence in banking. We are just beginning to scratch the surface of its potential! AI presents significant opportunities to better serve and protect our customers while also creating efficiencies in our day-to-day operations. It’s an exciting time to see how this technology will continue to shape the future of our industry.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in banking?
Be curious and seek out opportunities beyond your current role. Get involved in different areas of the bank to build your knowledge and help develop a strong network. You never know how today’s experiences will influence your future. Be willing to step outside your comfort zone, stay open to unexpected paths and never stop learning.

“Successful banking starts with great people and Courtney is a perfect example of why we continue to succeed. She embraces change, continuously seeks opportunities to grow and is always looking for ways to better serve both her team and our customers. Courtney approaches challenges with confidence and isn’t afraid to ask questions to ensure the best outcomes. She has also achieved a perfect balance between her roles as a dedicated professional and a mother. Her team looks to her as a mentor and leader, and we are truly fortunate to have her as part of First Bank.”

If you weren’t a banker, what would you do for a living?
Growing up, I always wanted to be a teacher, and I have a degree in elementary education. If I hadn’t found a way to fulfill my passion for training and developing others within the banking industry, I believe I would be helping students reach their full potential in the classroom.
What is the thing you have done/accomplished, professionally or personally, that you are the proudest of?
Earning my master’s degree in management stands out as both a professional and personal milestone. I began the program just two weeks after having my daughter, and while the time was incredibly challenging, it was also deeply rewarding. I’m proud of what I achieved and the connections I made, and I credit that experience as a key contributor to my career growth.
What’s your go-to comfort food?
My go-to comfort food is grilled cheese. Growing up, my dad’s grilled cheese sandwiches had a way of making everything better. Even now, it’s what I crave on both the tough days and the celebratory ones—especially when he’s the one making it.
What do you do for fun when you’re not working?
I’m a mom of two very active kids, and I love supporting them in everything they do. Most of my time outside of work is spent at my daughter’s cheer events, my son’s soccer games, or spending time in the barn with their show pigs. On the rare occasion I’m not on the go, I’ve recently started hand knitting blankets.
Tell us about something on your bucket list.
Believe it or not, I’ve never traveled outside the country. At this stage in my life, I’m waiting until my children are old enough so we can experience that together. I remember seeing photos of Venice, Italy from my grandfather’s time in the military, and the idea of traveling through the city by boat has stayed with me ever since—it’s at the top of my bucket list!
