Horizon Bank awarded a $5,000 grant to The Salvation Army of Michigan City in support of its Weekend Backpack Feeding Program. The program provides critical weekend meals for children in the Michigan City area who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless or facing food insecurity.
Each week during the school year, children receive six nutritious meals. The goal is to make sure they have breakfast, lunch, and dinner on both Saturday and Sunday when school meals are not available.
“We are so grateful to Horizon Bank for their generous support of our Weekend Backpack Feeding Program through the Horizon Cares Grant. These funds help us continue providing nutritious meals to local, food-insecure children,” said Major Becky Simmons, a corps officer with the Salvation Army of Michigan City. “This support is a true blessing, not only to the children we serve, but to our entire community. We appreciate Horizon Bank’s commitment to ‘Doing the Most Good’ right alongside us.”
“Horizon proudly supports the Salvation Army of Michigan City’s efforts to eliminate food insecurity within our community. The Weekend Backpack Feeding Program is an amazing and vital program for our children and families.,” said Steve Kring, Horizon Bank’s regional president for northwest Indiana.
